Reasons to Visit an Emergency Dentist

Emergency DentistIf you significantly damage your teeth or have considerable oral pain, do not hesitate to visit an emergency dentist. Do not worry about issues like the time of day or night, inconvenience or cost. If your mouth is truly hurt, you should receive treatment in a timely manner.

Here are some examples of situations in which you should not hesitate to visit an emergency dentist.

Lost or Broken Teeth

Imagine a scenario in which you are running across the kitchen, trip on a pet toy. This is certainly a nightmarish scenario yet it is absolutely within the realm of possibility. Broken teeth should prompt an immediate visit with an emergency dentist. This is an excellent example of the type of serious dental injury that should be addressed by an emergency dentist without delay.

If possible, place the lost tooth back in the socket. Hold the tooth by the crown. Use a clean washcloth when handling it. If the tooth is not clean, rinse the root. Do not scrub the tooth or contact any of the connecting tissues. If it is not possible to reinsert it, place it in a cup of milk until you get to the dentist.

Significant Tooth Pain

Do not underestimate the power of tooth pain. Leave your tooth pain unaddressed and it has the potential to send your life into a tailspin. A toothache really is a meaningful problem. If the toothache persists, it is a sign the tooth has considerable decay. Go to an emergency dentist to have your tooth checked out. The decay can be removed and the tooth can be remedied. So do not let tooth decay ruin your life when help is a phone call away.

Suspect a Broken Jaw? Obtain Immediate Assistance With an Emergency Dentist

If you suspect you have broken your jaw or endured any other significant jaw injury, apply a cold compress to your face and jaw area. Do not hesitate to visit with the emergency dentist for a diagnosis and treatment.

Cracked or Chipped Teeth

If you crack or chip a tooth, try to stay cool, calm and collected. Rinse out your mouth with warm water. Place a cold compress against your face. Head over to the emergency dentist for treatment as quickly as possible. It is worth noting that if the tooth was chipped or broken, any tooth fragments you can find should be wrapped in a wet towel or a wet gauze.

A Severely Bitten Lip or Tongue

A bitten lip or tongue is cause for concern if it is serious enough. Clean the site with a wet cloth to minimize swelling. If the bleeding continues or if there is a significant amount of blood, visit an emergency room for assistance.
