Hi, I'm Dr. Priya Mathew from MVP Family Dental and I will be speaking to you about dental implants today.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are a way of replacing your teeth. They are like an artificial tooth root. They're made out of titanium and they can help you replace your teeth almost without anybody having to know.

What conditions would cause a dentist to recommend dental implants?

A dentist would recommend dental implants if you are missing one or more teeth. That's when we would recommend them.

What are the advantages?

The advantages of a dental implant are that you don't have to take it out and in. Once it's in and the crown has been restored, you do not have to take it out. You just brush it like you normally would. You floss it like you normally would. It doesn't have to come out at night. It's comfortable. You don't feel it. It's pretty much painless. There are a lot of advantages to a dental implant.

What is the process I would go through if I decide to get dental implants?

The process you would go through if you decide to get dental implants is first, you would come in for a consultation. We would take a look at the area that you are interested in getting an implant in. We would take a couple of scans. One would be an intraoral scan, which is like a digital impression. You don't have to get all the goop and all that messy stuff for an impression. We just literally scan you intraorally with a scanner. Then we take a CT scan that we have in the office, which will give us a 3D X-ray, if you will, of your jaw. We can see if everything is in good condition to get a dental implant.

Once we confirm that you are a good candidate for a dental implant, that's when I do the planning. I get a stent made, which is like a guide for where the implant exactly is going to go. You make your appointment, come in, and we put the implant right in there. It takes about half an hour, an hour max. You're numb for the procedure. You don't feel anything. The next day, usually, patients are totally fine. They don't really even have to take a Motrin or Tylenol. Then we just wait. We wait about three months for the implant to completely heal and adhere to your bone. You come back in three months. I give it a check, make sure it's stable. If everything looks good, then we can go onto the crown. All I do is put a little scan body in there, which is a little piece that we just screw into the implant. We take a scan of that, a digital scan. The lab makes the crown and you come back in a few weeks to get your final crown.

Sometimes people need a tooth removed and then the implant placed. Sometimes we can actually remove the tooth and put the implant in at the same visit. It all depends on the situation. If the tooth is really infected, then we might want to take out the tooth, let it heal, get rid of the infection in that area, and then later place the implant.

When is bone grafting required?

Bone grafting is required when there's not enough bone in the area where we want to place the implant. If the tooth has been missing for a long period of time, maybe more than five years, the bone will shrink down and become thinner. In that case, we might need a bone graft to have enough bone for the implant to adhere to.

When choosing new artificial teeth, what options do I have and what are the pros and cons of each?

When choosing new artificial teeth, there are different options. One would be the implants we're discussing. Those are fixed options, so they don't come out of your mouth. We also have partials, which are partial dentures that can come out and in. These do come out at night and don't feel as natural as your normal dentition, whereas implants feel just as natural as your normal teeth. I would say that implants are the best option for the replacement of your teeth because they look the most natural, feel the most natural, and are the most comfortable.

How long do they last?

Implants should last you 10 years or more as long as you are keeping up with your hygiene appointments in the office and also at-home care like brushing your teeth and flossing regularly. It's kind of like a car. You have to keep your maintenance on the car for it to keep running properly. It's similar to that.

Can they get cavities?

Implants cannot get cavities.

What are the costs and financing options involved with dental implants?

Dental implants can cost about $2500 to place the implant and then $2500 for the crown. This can be broken up into different parts. We will work with you to make sure it is affordable for you. We also have financing options. One company we use is Cherry Financing. You can apply from your own phone in the office. You get approved for however much the amount is and then you can get started as soon as possible.

Does that have interest?

Cherry Financing has 12 months of interest-free options. If you are approved, you can get 12 months of financing with no interest.

At MVP Family Dental, we understand the impact that missing teeth can have on your confidence, functionality, and overall quality of life. If you’re searching for effective tooth replacement options, look no further than our comprehensive dental implants in Jenkintown. Our skilled team, led by Dr. Priya Mathew and Dr. Vineetha Thomas, is dedicated to helping you regain your smile and improve your oral health through cutting-edge dental restoration services that are tailored to your individual needs.

Dental implants represent one of the most promising solutions for those missing one or more teeth. These innovative artificial tooth roots serve as a base for durable replacement teeth, allowing you to enjoy a comfortable bite and a natural appearance. Unlike traditional dentures or bridges, dental implants mimic the structure of natural teeth, providing stability and function that allows you to eat, speak, and smile with confidence.

The dental implant process begins with a detailed consultation at our Jenkintown dental office, where we evaluate your oral health and determine if you're a suitable candidate for implants. If you have a weakened jawbone, don’t worry – our team can perform a bone graft for implants, ensuring that your jaw is strong enough to support your new artificial tooth roots. This personalized approach to dental care is a hallmark of our family dental practice, where your well-being is our top priority.

Once your jawbone is ready, we gently place the dental implants by making a small incision in your gum to expose the bone. After inserting the implant, we suture the gum around the post. Following this minor surgical procedure, a healing period ensues during which your bone integrates around the implant, ensuring a secure foundation for your replacement teeth. This process can take several weeks to months, but the results – a stable and natural-feeling smile – are well worth the wait!

When it’s time for the final step, our team will attach an abutment and a beautifully crafted crown or implant supported dentures, completing your dental restoration. The seamless transition from implant to crown ensures that, whether you opt for a permanent solution or a removable option, your smile will look stunning and feel natural.

Maintaining oral hygiene for implants is vital to ensuring the longevity of your dental work. Caring for your implants comes down to the same principles as caring for your natural teeth. Regular brushing, flossing, and rinsing with mouthwash are essential components of oral hygiene with implants. In addition, you should attend routine checkups and professional cleanings at MVP Family Dental. We prioritize your comfort during visits, creating an inviting atmosphere to alleviate any anxiety you may have associated with dental care.

For those with removable, implant supported dentures, specific care instructions are important. To maintain optimal hygiene, it’s recommended that these dentures be taken out at night and treated with a denture solution. Staying proactive in your dental care can help prevent complications and contribute to your overall oral health.
